Trip overview
A quick summary of the route, support level, and the main things travelers should know before booking.
Rara Lake is Nepal’s biggest Lake, located in the Mugu district of Karnali zone in Nepal. Situated at the altitude of 2,990m above the sea level, the lake is surrounded by the pine, spruce and juniper forest of the Rara National Park. The Rara Lake Trek or trekking to this hidden gem of Nepal, promises unlimited adventure, culture and panoramic geographical landscape, so beautiful and serene that it will make you want to come back to this place again and again.
Despite being one of the most famous trekking routes in the western Nepal, the trail is the least visited trekking trail in Nepal. Although the place is very remote and not easily accessible, the destination, that is, the Rara Lake and the trail leading to the destination is all worth your effort.
The standard 15 days Rara Lake Trekking package by Amigo Treks and Expedition, allows you to enjoy the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu; Nepalgunj- one of the biggest cities in Nepal’s Terai region; scenic flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj and then to Jumla; trail leading through the forest of Pine, Rhododendron, Juniper, Oak; ancient remains of the Malla civilization in the Sinja Valley; the Rara National Park featuring a wide variety of plants and animals and the Rara Lake itself –the biggest Lake in Nepal. This package ensures bed and breakfast in Kathmandu and Nepalgunj and full board (meal+accommodation), during the trek; an English speaking guide, all ground transportation and the domestic flight tickets. Moreover, this trekking package is a fully customizable package, therefore, we can sit together and design a new package considering your personal needs, requirements and budget, with 100% guarantee on departure. The company also offers special discount, if you bring a group along with you.
The trekking starts with a flight to Nepalgunj and then to Jumla. From Jumla, the trail passes through Chere Chaur, Chala Chaur, Sinja Valley, Gorosingha, Rara Lake, Pina, Bumra and back to Jumla circling the Rara Lake. From Jumla, a flight back to Nepalgunj and then to Kathmandu will bring the Rara Lake trek to an end.

WOW, Where do I start? I have wanted to do this trek for about 30 years, so when we decided to book we compared many trekking companies to decide who to go with and #AmigoTrekking scored the best and they certainly lived up to expectations. We had an amazing journey far better than our wildest dreams. There were a few reasons why our trip was so good and here's why. Prior to the Journey: AMIGO Trekking were so professional prior to the journey, answering my numerous emails in the leadup in regards to gear requirements, weight of rental gear and logistics. We communicated with Niti regularly and she always got back to me within 24 hours. This is very important when trying to plan such a trip. Amigo and Niti were also the only company that effortlessly accommodated our desire to extend our stay in Tengboche to attend the festival at the monastery. (November) Once we arrived: We were greeted at the airport by a very friendly and professional mountain guide 'Hari Adhikari' who immediately helped us navigate our exit from the airport making a very chaotic situation easy. We felt like royalty. Little did we know at that point just how much this one man would shape our trek into the amazing journey it became. For the next 14 days Hari was by our side perfectly pacesetting our speed for success. He steered us to quality tea houses with the best food for breaks, negotiated the best rooms for us every night and even showed us the best spots for pictures along the way. His experience and cheery disposition was very visible with every interaction he had. He seemed to be best friends with every guide, porter and tea house owner we passed. Hence we nicknamed him 'Happy Hari'. No task was too big or small and he made a point of letting us know where he'd be every night (his room number, tent or dining room) in case we needed him. He was not only the main reason for our successful completion of the Trek, but added many enjoyable moments for us as well. If you are lucky enough to have Hari as your guide, make sure you take a pack of UNO cards with you. Hari loves the game! Along with Hari we were also lucky to have on our team an amazing young man Chandra (Sandra) who was our super human porter. He too always wore a smile, even when lugging our bags over rock after rock! Thanks mate, we don't know how you do it. If we can impart one thing we've learned that will make your Trek in Nepal memorable. It's go with Amigo and insist on Hari and Chandra. You won't regret it! Thanks guys, we are forever grateful.
