After years of exploring various destinations, Everest Base Camp remained on our bucket list as that one intimidating challenge. The logistics alone seemed overwhelming, and we wondered if we could handle such a demanding trek at this stage of our lives. When we discovered Amigo Treks and Expedition's "Ultimate Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek," we were intrigued by the possibility of experiencing this legendary destination without sacrificing comfort. Arriving in Kathmandu: First Impressions Matter The moment we landed in Kathmandu, we knew we had made the right choice. After a lengthy international flight, the last thing anyone wants is confusion at the airport. The Amigo team was waiting with clear signage and immediately took care of our luggage and transportation to a well-appointed hotel in the city center. This attention to detail set the tone for what would become a consistently well-managed experience. Our exploration of Kathmandu Valley unfolded at a comfortable pace in a private vehicle, allowing us to visit the UNESCO World Heritage Sites without the usual tourist rush. The welcome dinner featured authentic Nepali cuisine and traditional cultural performances, providing meaningful context for the adventure ahead. These initial experiences demonstrated the company's understanding that a successful expedition begins long before reaching the mountains. The Journey Begins: Helicopter Transport to Lukla Rather than taking the standard commercial flight to Lukla, we traveled by private helicopter directly from Kathmandu. This decision proved transformative, offering unobstructed views of the Himalayan range and eliminating potential delays from weather-related flight cancellations. The helicopter approach also provided our first comprehensive view of the terrain we would be traversing, creating anticipation rather than anxiety about the challenge ahead. Upon landing in Lukla, our guides and support team were prepared and organized, facilitating a smooth transition from air travel to the beginning of our trek. This seamless coordination became a consistent theme throughout our expedition. Trekking with Professional Support The trek itself exceeded our expectations for both adventure and comfort. Our experienced guides managed all logistical elements, allowing us to focus entirely on the experience rather than worry about daily arrangements. The route through villages like Phakding and Namche Bazaar was carefully planned with appropriate acclimatization stops, demonstrating genuine concern for trekker safety and comfort. The accommodation selections along the route proved exceptional. Properties such as Yeti Mountain Home, Everest View Hotel, and Culture Home provided comfortable lodging with amenities rarely found at such altitudes. Features like heated rooms, quality bedding, and well-prepared meals addressed the practical challenges of high-altitude trekking while maintaining the authentic mountain experience we sought. These accommodations served a crucial function beyond comfort. After demanding days of trekking, proper rest and nutrition became essential for maintaining energy and enjoyment throughout the journey. The thoughtful selection of lodging directly contributed to our ability to complete the trek successfully. Reaching Our Destination: Base Camp and Kala Patthar The approach through Lobuche and Gorakshep built anticipation for the final objectives. Witnessing sunrise from Kala Patthar over Mount Everest provided the emotional highlight of our expedition. The following day's arrival at Everest Base Camp fulfilled a long-held goal and created a lasting sense of personal accomplishment. The consistent support throughout these final stages allowed us to remain present and engaged with the experience. Rather than managing fatigue or logistics concerns, we could appreciate the significance of reaching these iconic destinations and the remarkable landscape surrounding them. Efficient Return Journey The helicopter return to Kathmandu proved as valuable as the initial flight to Lukla. This approach avoided the lengthy trek back through familiar terrain and provided a final aerial perspective of our entire route. The efficiency of this return allowed more time for reflection and recovery before our departure from Nepal. Overall Assessment This expedition with Amigo Treks and Expedition successfully combined adventure with practical comfort. Several elements distinguished this experience from standard trekking packages. The inclusion of buffer days in the itinerary demonstrated realistic planning for mountain weather conditions. The quality of guides and support staff ensured both safety and cultural education throughout the journey. The comprehensive service approach eliminated routine concerns about meals, permits, and transportation. For travelers seeking a challenging adventure without compromising on service quality, this approach to Everest Base Camp proves highly effective. The experience delivered both the personal satisfaction of completing a demanding trek and the comfort level necessary for full enjoyment of this remarkable destination. The investment in professional planning and quality accommodations transformed what could have been an endurance test into a memorable and enriching travel experience. Our journey to Everest Base Camp will remain a highlight of our travel experiences, combining personal achievement with the discovery of Nepal's extraordinary mountain culture.

A 5-day journey to unveil one of the Annapurna region’s best-kept secrets.
Mardi Himal 5-day round-trip trek from Pokhara is one of the prime short duration treks in the Annapurna region in Nepal. This trek near Pokhara offers an unforgettable up-close view of Annapurna massif’s snow capped peaks: Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Baraha Shikhar, Singu Chuli, Annapurna I, Mardi Himall and Machhapuchhre. Starting from the lakeside city of Pokhara, this moderate trek takes you through charming villages steeped in local Gurung and Magar culture and tradition, lush rhododendron forest and high alpine landscape.

Route notes
Breakfast at the hotel and your trekking guide will pick you up from your hotel and together you will drive (roughly two hours) to Pitam Deurali. Pitam Deurali, or simply Deurali is the trail head of Mardi Himal Trek. From Pitam Deurali, you will hike to the Forest Camp located roughly 7.5 kilometers north-east of Deurali. The trail to Mardi Himal forks east from Annapurna Base Camp trail. Following the Mardi Himal Base Camp trail, you will start your journey to the Forest Camp. Most of today’s trail goes through the forest of Rhododendron, Oak, Birch and Hemlock. The trail is narrow, on the forest ridge and mostly ascending with occasional descents. Therefore, make sure to choose to walk on the widest and what appears to be the mostly trodden trail. Be careful around the gnarled roots. After an approximately, 5 hour walk through this forest, you will reach the Forest Camp, where you will check into the lodge booked for you and spend the remaining day at leisure, enjoying the tranquility of the forest. You will either carry packed lunch or have lunch when you reach the Forest Camp. Overnight in a lodge in the Forest Camp. Meals: Lunch and Dinner
Route notes
Badal Danda located roughly 4.5 kilometers further north east of Forest Camp is the destination of the day. You will start your hike after a hearty breakfast at the lodge in the Forest Camp. The first leg of today’s hike is through the forest of Rhododendron. It’s a difficult 40-minute climb. Soon you will reach the Rest Camp, where you will take a short rest enjoying a distant view of the forked tail of Fishtail. From here, about 2 hours of brisk hiking will take you to the Low Camp, where you will stop for a quick lunch. After lunch, the journey to Badal Danda continues. A 1-2 hour hike further north will take you to Badal Danda. The last leg of this day’s hike is on the ridge above the treeline. Enjoy mesmerizing and much closer views of Machhapuchhre, Mardi Himal and Annapurna South, while you are walking on the ridge. After 5-6 hours of arduous hike, you will reach Badal Danda that feels like a heaven as this place presents you with a very captivating view of the sea of clouds. Overnight in a lodge in Badal Danda. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Route notes
The High Camp, located roughly 3.5 kilometers north-east of Badal Danda is the destination of the day. After a good breakfast at the lodge in Badal Danda, your journey continues to High Camp. A leisurely hike on a well-laid stone step trail that gently ascends and descends will first bring you out of Badal Danda. Slowly leaving the treeline, following the exposed ridgeline, you will further continue toward the High Camp, enjoying the magnificent views of the green valleys to your left and Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre and Mardi Himal in front of you. Facing Mardi Himal, as you hike further north, Machhapuchhre towers right above Mardi Himal in front of you. Since you are above treeline, the only plant life that accompanies you are the small shrubs. Continue further and you will reach a small open pasture with a few lodge options (the High Camp), which is the last and the highest overnight stop of this trek. About 2-3 hours of hike from Badal Danda will finally bring you to the High Camp. You will check into the lodge and spend the remainder of the time either at leisure or exploring the ridge taking pictures of the peaks that are towering right in front of you. Overnight in a lodge in the High Camp. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Route notes
If you are a sunrise lover and want to capture the picture of a spectacular sunrise over the summit of the mountains, wake up early in the morning and hike up to the viewpoint that is located right above the High Camp. However, if you prefer to rest, then you can start the day around 7:00-7:30 am after a hearty breakfast at the lodge in the High Camp. Mardi Himal Base Camp is located approximately 4.5 kilometers from the High Camp and on an average, the hiking time is about 2-3 hours. You will start your hike by first hiking up to the ridge. Then following the long ridgeline, you will hike to the base camp. This walk on the ridgeline is the highlight of this trek as the views of Annapurna South, Tent Peak, Gangapurna, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhre and Mardi Himal not just appear closer, but monumental as well. You can also witness the massive glaciers tumbling down the mountainside. The views are captivating, and it’s very difficult to keep your eyes off them, but since you are hiking on an exposed ridgeline, we suggest you focus on the trail as well. Once you reach the Base Camp, spend some time relishing the views. Now feeling accomplished, retrace your steps back to the High Camp. The total journey today takes about 5-6 hours. You will spend this night in the lodge in the High Camp. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Route notes
Last day of the trek you will hike from the High Camp to Siding, before taking a road transportation to Pokhara. The hiking distance is about 8.5 kilometers and the average walking hour required to complete this distance is 5-7 hours. Like any other regular trekking day, you will start the journey after breakfast. Leaving the spectacular views of the mountains and the valley behind, you will retrace your steps down till the Low Camp. The hike time is about 1.5 to 2 hours. From the Low Camp, the trail to Siding Village branches south-east. The downhill walk is mostly through the lush forest. About 3 hours walk from the Low Camp will bring you to the village of Siding. The trek ends here. From here, you will take a vehicle (mostly jeep) back to Pokhara. The drive to Pokhara is very scenic and full of views of luring green hills and stunning mountains. Roughly 2 hours drive from Siding will bring you back to Pokhara. You will be dropped off at the hotel you have booked for yourself in Pokhara ending the trek with Amigo Treks and Expedition. Meals: Breakfast and Lunch

For those looking for a quieter trail with similar elevation, trekking days and scenery, the Mardi Himal Trek makes a fantastic alternative to the Annapurna Base Camp Trek from Pokhara. This trail will take you only a few hundred meters higher than the Annapurna Base Camp. However, if you are looking for a shorter alternative trek, we highly recommend the recent popular Muldai Viewpoint Trek from Pokhara.
