After years of exploring various destinations, Everest Base Camp remained on our bucket list as that one intimidating challenge. The logistics alone seemed overwhelming, and we wondered if we could handle such a demanding trek at this stage of our lives. When we discovered Amigo Treks and Expedition's "Ultimate Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek," we were intrigued by the possibility of experiencing this legendary destination without sacrificing comfort. Arriving in Kathmandu: First Impressions Matter The moment we landed in Kathmandu, we knew we had made the right choice. After a lengthy international flight, the last thing anyone wants is confusion at the airport. The Amigo team was waiting with clear signage and immediately took care of our luggage and transportation to a well-appointed hotel in the city center. This attention to detail set the tone for what would become a consistently well-managed experience. Our exploration of Kathmandu Valley unfolded at a comfortable pace in a private vehicle, allowing us to visit the UNESCO World Heritage Sites without the usual tourist rush. The welcome dinner featured authentic Nepali cuisine and traditional cultural performances, providing meaningful context for the adventure ahead. These initial experiences demonstrated the company's understanding that a successful expedition begins long before reaching the mountains. The Journey Begins: Helicopter Transport to Lukla Rather than taking the standard commercial flight to Lukla, we traveled by private helicopter directly from Kathmandu. This decision proved transformative, offering unobstructed views of the Himalayan range and eliminating potential delays from weather-related flight cancellations. The helicopter approach also provided our first comprehensive view of the terrain we would be traversing, creating anticipation rather than anxiety about the challenge ahead. Upon landing in Lukla, our guides and support team were prepared and organized, facilitating a smooth transition from air travel to the beginning of our trek. This seamless coordination became a consistent theme throughout our expedition. Trekking with Professional Support The trek itself exceeded our expectations for both adventure and comfort. Our experienced guides managed all logistical elements, allowing us to focus entirely on the experience rather than worry about daily arrangements. The route through villages like Phakding and Namche Bazaar was carefully planned with appropriate acclimatization stops, demonstrating genuine concern for trekker safety and comfort. The accommodation selections along the route proved exceptional. Properties such as Yeti Mountain Home, Everest View Hotel, and Culture Home provided comfortable lodging with amenities rarely found at such altitudes. Features like heated rooms, quality bedding, and well-prepared meals addressed the practical challenges of high-altitude trekking while maintaining the authentic mountain experience we sought. These accommodations served a crucial function beyond comfort. After demanding days of trekking, proper rest and nutrition became essential for maintaining energy and enjoyment throughout the journey. The thoughtful selection of lodging directly contributed to our ability to complete the trek successfully. Reaching Our Destination: Base Camp and Kala Patthar The approach through Lobuche and Gorakshep built anticipation for the final objectives. Witnessing sunrise from Kala Patthar over Mount Everest provided the emotional highlight of our expedition. The following day's arrival at Everest Base Camp fulfilled a long-held goal and created a lasting sense of personal accomplishment. The consistent support throughout these final stages allowed us to remain present and engaged with the experience. Rather than managing fatigue or logistics concerns, we could appreciate the significance of reaching these iconic destinations and the remarkable landscape surrounding them. Efficient Return Journey The helicopter return to Kathmandu proved as valuable as the initial flight to Lukla. This approach avoided the lengthy trek back through familiar terrain and provided a final aerial perspective of our entire route. The efficiency of this return allowed more time for reflection and recovery before our departure from Nepal. Overall Assessment This expedition with Amigo Treks and Expedition successfully combined adventure with practical comfort. Several elements distinguished this experience from standard trekking packages. The inclusion of buffer days in the itinerary demonstrated realistic planning for mountain weather conditions. The quality of guides and support staff ensured both safety and cultural education throughout the journey. The comprehensive service approach eliminated routine concerns about meals, permits, and transportation. For travelers seeking a challenging adventure without compromising on service quality, this approach to Everest Base Camp proves highly effective. The experience delivered both the personal satisfaction of completing a demanding trek and the comfort level necessary for full enjoyment of this remarkable destination. The investment in professional planning and quality accommodations transformed what could have been an endurance test into a memorable and enriching travel experience. Our journey to Everest Base Camp will remain a highlight of our travel experiences, combining personal achievement with the discovery of Nepal's extraordinary mountain culture.

Route notes
Start your day with a filling breakfast at the hotel in Pokhara before heading off to Ulleri, the trailhead, to start your trek. After breakfast, your guide will meet you at your hotel in Pokhara, and you’ll set off together for Ulleri by private jeep. The drive initially follows the Pokhara-Baglung Highway up to Nayapul, where the route to Ulleri branches north. A short drive from Nayapul brings you to Birethanti, where you’ll briefly stop at the ACAP office to complete entry formalities. The drive now continues through Lamdawali, Sudame, Hile and Tikhedhunga to Ulleri. This section features predominantly off-road conditions, providing a truly adventurous driving experience. However, the entire journey from Pokhara to Ulleri is incredibly scenic, with breathtaking views of majestic mountains shimmering under the blue sky, verdant hills, terraced fields, and glimpses of rural life- which you’ll come to understand more deeply in the days ahead. Approximately 4 hours after leaving Pokhara, you will reach Ulleri, a charming Magar (ethnic group in Nepal) village nestled amidst stunning views of Annapurna South and Hiunchuli. If you are hungry, you will have your lunch in Ulleri, before starting the trek. However, if you are not hungry, you will continue to Banthanti for lunch. Following a brief trek preparation in Ulleri, you will begin your hike to Ghorepani, situated approximately 7 kilometers northwest of Ulleri. It’s a gentle hike mostly through the forest of Rhododendron and Oak. Navigating your way through the forest, past Banthanti and Nagge Thanti, you will reach Ghorepani in roughly 4 hours from Ulleri. Ghorepani, a scenic and peaceful mountain village surrounded by the mesmerizing view of Annapurna South, Hiun Chuli, Machhapuchhre, Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri serves as a very popular stop for a number of treks in this area and offers a glimpse into the traditional mountain life. Often referred to as the gateway to Poon Hill (the best vantage point in the entire Annapurna region to view the panorama of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri range), this village offers a range of lodges and guest houses that cater to trekkers with food, accommodation and other essential services. Once in Ghorepani, you will check into the lodge for dinner and overnight stay. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

The walk from Ghorepani to the viewpoint of Poon Hill takes about 45 minutes, so you’ll set out early- approximately 45 minutes before sunrise- to reach the summit in time. At the summit, you’re welcomed by a breathtaking spectacle-the sun rising over the towering peaks of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. In a single sweeping view, you can witness a stunning panorama that includes Dhaulagiri, Tukuche, Thapa Peak, Nilgiri South, Central and North, Tilicho Peak, Patal Hiunchuli, Annapurna South, Baraha Shikhar, Annapurna I, Singu Chuli, Tharpu Chuli, Tare Kang, Gangapurna, Annapurna III, Gandarwa Chuli, Machhapuchhre, Mardi Himal, Annapurna IV, Annapurna II, and Lamjung Himal. Take time to soak in the views, capture some unforgettable photos, and then return to Ghorepani for breakfast. Shortly after breakfast in Ghorepani, you’ll begin your journey to Tadapani, your overnight stop for the day. The trail stretches approximately 9 kilometers to the east. The initial part of the walk is relatively gentle, gradually becoming steeper as you approach the Deurali Pass. From the pass, the trail leading towards Banthanti enters the forest of rhododendron. This section is known for excellent bird watching opportunities. A steep descent followed by a short climb through the rhododendron forest then brings you to Tadapani. Approximately 6 hours after leaving Ghorepani, you will reach Tadapani. In Tadapani, you will check into the lodge for dinner and overnight stay. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Route notes
Tadapani to Ghanduk is only about 5.5 kilometers walk. Therefore, you will only start this day after a relaxed mid-morning breakfast, enjoyed well past the early rush. This is also the shortest day of this trek as you will only hike down to Ghandruk. Ghandruk is a charming Gurung (ethnic group in Nepal) village offering a glimpse into local culture, with traditional houses, warm hospitality and panoramic views of Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre. The purpose of today’s descent to Ghandruk only is to enjoy the unique cultural essence the village adds to your journey. Leaving Tadapani, a three-hour descent through oak and rhododendron forests-accompanied by the sounds of chirping birds and singing insects-leads you to Ghandruk. Upon arriving in Ghandruk, you’ll check into the lodge and take some time to rest and enjoy lunch. Later, you will explore the village and visit the Gurung Museum for a deeper insight into the traditions and lifestyles of the Gurung community. In the evening, enjoy cultural shows organized and performed by community women. Overnight in a lodge in Ghandruk. Alternatively, you may choose to continue to hike to Landruk if you’d rather not overnight in Ghandruk. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Route notes
Wake up to the awe-striking views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli and Machhapuchhre and set your mind to start your hike to the Forest Camp, after hearty breakfast in Ghandruk. The hiking distance today is about 6 kilometers. After breakfast in Ghandruk, you’ll hike down to the motorable road, then cross over to join the trail leading to Landruk. Following the stone steps and surrounded by lush greenery, you’ll descend to a small village called Kyumi. Beyond the village, the trail continues on a fairly level path, occasionally paved with stone, flanked by green hills rising steeply on both sides. Breathing in the fresh mountain air, you’ll gradually descend to a bridge spanning the Modi River. After crossing it, the trail climbs steeply through a forested path, leading you up toward Landruk. The hike from Ghandruk to Landruk takes approximately two hours, ending at the peaceful hillside settlement. Leaving Landruk, you’ll ascend along a stone-stepped trail until you reach a junction, where you’ll continue your journey by following the Mardi Himal trail. With each step, the trail becomes increasingly steep. Before, continuing onward, you’ll stop for lunch at Kyupche, where you can enjoy distant view of both Ghandruk and Landruk. From Kyupche, you’ll continue up steep stone-steps switchbacks, gradually making your way into the forest. The trail further steepns and the woods grow denser. Soon, you’ll reach a trail junction where the path from Pitam Deurali meets the one coming from Landruk. From here, the trail to Forest Camp becomes more gradual. Eventually, you’ll arrive at a forest clearing dotted with about a dozen lodges - this marks Forest Camp, your overnight stop for the day. Should you wish to extend the day’s trek, Low Camp is approximately two hours farther from Forest Camp. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Route notes
Start your day with a hearty breakfast at the lodge in Forest Camp before setting off on the day’s trek. From the Forest Camp, the trail climbs steeply on stone steps through dense forest. Though the ascent is tiring, the cool shade and peaceful surroundings help ease the effort. After about 45 minutes of steady climbing, you’ll reach Rest Camp, where you are rewarded with a stunning view of the majestic Machhapuchhre. After a short break at Rest Camp, the trail continues with a gradual ascent through a serene and beautiful forest. The peaceful atmosphere, accompanied by the cheerful chirping of birds and the hum of insects, makes the walk truly enjoyable. Around two hours after leaving Forest Camp, you’ll arrive at Low Camp. Low Camp is also the junction where the trail descending to Siding meets the one ascending to Mardi Base Camp. After lunch at the Low Camp, continuing along the Mardi Base Camp trail, you’ll ascend steeply on a stone-step path, entering the forest again. From this point onwards, the majestic peak of Machhapuchhre begins to dominate the landscape. Slowly as you approach Badal Danda, the trees grow sparse. Soon you will be greeted with a grand panorama of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli and Machhapuchhre, which marks the arrival of Badal Danda. Approximately five hours after leaving the forest camp, you will reach Badal Danda. Once at Badal Danda, you will check into the lodge for dinner and overnight stay. Should you wish to extend the day’s trek, High Camp is approximately two hours farther from Badal Danda. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Route notes
Today’s trek takes you to High Camp, located about 3.5 kilometers from Badal Danda—a gentle hike that typically takes 2 to 3 hours. After breakfast at Badal Danda, you’ll follow a well-laid stone-step trail that gently undulates along a scenic ridgeline. As you leave the treeline behind, the trail opens up to sweeping views: lush green valleys stretch out to the east, while to the north, the majestic peaks of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhre, and Mardi Himal dominate the skyline. With Machhapuchhre towering above Mardi Himal, the view becomes increasingly dramatic as you approach High Camp. Above the treeline, the landscape is marked by alpine shrubs and open terrain. Eventually, you'll arrive at a small open pasture dotted with a few lodges—this is High Camp, your final and highest overnight stop on the trek. Spend the rest of the day at leisure or take time to explore the ridge and capture unforgettable photos of the surrounding Himalayas. Overnight stay in a lodge at High Camp. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Route notes
For those wishing to catch the sunrise, an early start is recommended—well before dawn—to reach the viewpoint just above High Camp. If sunrise isn’t a priority, you can begin the day after an early breakfast, around 7:00 or 7:30 AM. Your trek to Mardi Himal Base Camp begins with a climb up to the ridgeline, followed by a steady hike along it. This stretch is considered the highlight of the entire Mardi Himal trek. As the ridge narrows, the panoramic views become even more breathtaking—the towering peaks of Annapurna South, Tent Peak, Gangapurna, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhre, and Mardi Himal feel almost within reach. Below, massive glaciers cascade down the mountainsides, adding to the dramatic scenery. While the views are mesmerizing, it's important to tread carefully along the exposed ridgeline. The 4.5-kilometer hike from High Camp to Base Camp typically takes 2 to 3 hours. Once at the base camp, take time to soak in the awe-inspiring landscape and capture it with your camera. After enjoying this rewarding moment, you’ll retrace your steps back to High Camp for the night. Overnight stay in a lodge at High Camp. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Route notes
Today’s trek covers approximately 8.5 kilometers and typically takes 5 to 6 hours to complete. After breakfast at High Camp, you’ll begin your descent by retracing the trail, passing once again through the scenic Badal Danda. The hike down to Low Camp takes around 1.5 to 2 hours. From Low Camp, the trail to Siding Village branches off to the east and leads steeply downhill through dense forest. The descent is steady and can be a bit challenging at times, but the tranquil surroundings make it enjoyable. After roughly 3 hours of trekking from Low Camp, you’ll reach Siding Village, marking the end of your Mardi Himal adventure. From Siding, you’ll board a jeep for a scenic two-hour drive to Pokhara. The journey offers lovely views of green hills and distant Himalayan peaks. Upon arrival in Pokhara, you'll be transferred to your hotel. Spend the rest of the day at your leisure—perhaps exploring the lakeside area or enjoying a peaceful boat ride on Phewa Lake. Overnight stay in a hotel in Pokhara. Meals: Breakfast and Lunch
