After years of exploring various destinations, Everest Base Camp remained on our bucket list as that one intimidating challenge. The logistics alone seemed overwhelming, and we wondered if we could handle such a demanding trek at this stage of our lives. When we discovered Amigo Treks and Expedition's "Ultimate Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek," we were intrigued by the possibility of experiencing this legendary destination without sacrificing comfort. Arriving in Kathmandu: First Impressions Matter The moment we landed in Kathmandu, we knew we had made the right choice. After a lengthy international flight, the last thing anyone wants is confusion at the airport. The Amigo team was waiting with clear signage and immediately took care of our luggage and transportation to a well-appointed hotel in the city center. This attention to detail set the tone for what would become a consistently well-managed experience. Our exploration of Kathmandu Valley unfolded at a comfortable pace in a private vehicle, allowing us to visit the UNESCO World Heritage Sites without the usual tourist rush. The welcome dinner featured authentic Nepali cuisine and traditional cultural performances, providing meaningful context for the adventure ahead. These initial experiences demonstrated the company's understanding that a successful expedition begins long before reaching the mountains. The Journey Begins: Helicopter Transport to Lukla Rather than taking the standard commercial flight to Lukla, we traveled by private helicopter directly from Kathmandu. This decision proved transformative, offering unobstructed views of the Himalayan range and eliminating potential delays from weather-related flight cancellations. The helicopter approach also provided our first comprehensive view of the terrain we would be traversing, creating anticipation rather than anxiety about the challenge ahead. Upon landing in Lukla, our guides and support team were prepared and organized, facilitating a smooth transition from air travel to the beginning of our trek. This seamless coordination became a consistent theme throughout our expedition. Trekking with Professional Support The trek itself exceeded our expectations for both adventure and comfort. Our experienced guides managed all logistical elements, allowing us to focus entirely on the experience rather than worry about daily arrangements. The route through villages like Phakding and Namche Bazaar was carefully planned with appropriate acclimatization stops, demonstrating genuine concern for trekker safety and comfort. The accommodation selections along the route proved exceptional. Properties such as Yeti Mountain Home, Everest View Hotel, and Culture Home provided comfortable lodging with amenities rarely found at such altitudes. Features like heated rooms, quality bedding, and well-prepared meals addressed the practical challenges of high-altitude trekking while maintaining the authentic mountain experience we sought. These accommodations served a crucial function beyond comfort. After demanding days of trekking, proper rest and nutrition became essential for maintaining energy and enjoyment throughout the journey. The thoughtful selection of lodging directly contributed to our ability to complete the trek successfully. Reaching Our Destination: Base Camp and Kala Patthar The approach through Lobuche and Gorakshep built anticipation for the final objectives. Witnessing sunrise from Kala Patthar over Mount Everest provided the emotional highlight of our expedition. The following day's arrival at Everest Base Camp fulfilled a long-held goal and created a lasting sense of personal accomplishment. The consistent support throughout these final stages allowed us to remain present and engaged with the experience. Rather than managing fatigue or logistics concerns, we could appreciate the significance of reaching these iconic destinations and the remarkable landscape surrounding them. Efficient Return Journey The helicopter return to Kathmandu proved as valuable as the initial flight to Lukla. This approach avoided the lengthy trek back through familiar terrain and provided a final aerial perspective of our entire route. The efficiency of this return allowed more time for reflection and recovery before our departure from Nepal. Overall Assessment This expedition with Amigo Treks and Expedition successfully combined adventure with practical comfort. Several elements distinguished this experience from standard trekking packages. The inclusion of buffer days in the itinerary demonstrated realistic planning for mountain weather conditions. The quality of guides and support staff ensured both safety and cultural education throughout the journey. The comprehensive service approach eliminated routine concerns about meals, permits, and transportation. For travelers seeking a challenging adventure without compromising on service quality, this approach to Everest Base Camp proves highly effective. The experience delivered both the personal satisfaction of completing a demanding trek and the comfort level necessary for full enjoyment of this remarkable destination. The investment in professional planning and quality accommodations transformed what could have been an endurance test into a memorable and enriching travel experience. Our journey to Everest Base Camp will remain a highlight of our travel experiences, combining personal achievement with the discovery of Nepal's extraordinary mountain culture.

Route notes
Located roughly 176 kilometers north-west of Kathmandu Valley, today’s journey from Kathmandu to Besisahar takes about 7 hours. You will start in a private vehicle (car/jeep/minivan-depending on the group size) after breakfast at the hotel in Kathmandu. The first leg of today’s drive is on the Prithvi Highway, which runs mostly along the Trisuli river. It’s a very scenic drive where you can enjoy the splendid views of green hills, mountains, terraced fields, hamlets and the roadside settlement of people. The highway drive continues till Dumre from where the road to Besisahar forks north. Leaving the highway and following the road you will not continue to Besisahar. You can stop for lunch and short toilet and tea breaks as per your choice anywhere needed. In Besisahar, you will check into the hotel and spend the afternoon at leisure. One best way to spend the evening in Besisahar is to explore the town of Besisahar to understand the lifestyle and culture. Overnight in a hotel in Besisahar. Please note: To break the monotony of the long drive, you can also choose to embark on a 3 hour rafting trip in the Trisuli River on the way to Besisahar. Extra charges will be applicable. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Route notes
Located roughly 66 kilometers north-west of Besisahar, it takes about 5 hours to reach Chame, the district headquarters of the Manag District. This day’s drive will also be on a private jeep. You will start after breakfast in Besisahar and hit the road that is mostly uneven, pitted and off road. However, the surrounding landscape of green hills, mountains, terraced farms, rivers and creeks, waterfalls is mindblowing. The highway is equally adventurous as the twisting and turning road is very narrow and sometimes simply hangs on the cliff. Passing small charming villages like Bhulbhule, Syange,Jagat Chamje, Tal, Dharapani, Bagarchhap, Danaque, Timang and Koto along the way, you will reach Chame. Leaving the terraced fields behind, you will now enter the forested area. Noticed the change in the housing style? In Chame, you will check into the lodge for overnight stay. After the drive, if you are not exhausted enough to go for a short evening walk, you should definitely explore the settlement of Chame. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Route notes
Located roughly 15 kilometers north-west of Chame, the hike from Chame to Pisang takes about 5-6 hours. Therefore, you will hit the trail after breakfast at the lodge in Chame. About one hour twenty minutes hike, north-west of Chame, past verdant fields and thick pine forest will take you Bhratang Apple Farm in Bhratang, a hidden gem and Nepal’s biggest apple farm en route to Manang. This place has a very special apple farm and a cafe where you can enjoy fresh apple juice and other apple products made of apple. Having spent some time here, you will head further north west to Dhikur Pokhari, continuing on a cliffside trail. Enjoy the views of the peak and cascading waterfalls that feed the Marsyangdi river, en route to Dhikur Pokhari. This cliffside trail sharply ascends running through the pine forest after crossing the bridge and evens out around Dhikur Pokhari. A little ahead of Dhikur Pokhari, the trail forks, one leading to Upper Pisang and the other to Lower Pisang. Following the lower Pisang trail, you will continue downhill on a winding trail that runs along the Marsyangdi River into the Marsyangdi Valley. On the way enjoy green fields, small lakes and the views of snow-covered slopes. Enjoy the view of the river meeting the forest, forest meeting the mountain and the mountain meeting the sky. About 45 minutes walk from Dhikur Pokhari will take you to Lower Pisang. You will check into the lodge for overnight stay. After a short rest, around late afternoon, you will go for an acclimatization hike to Upper Pisang located at the altitude of 3300 meters, across the river. Upper Pisang is a very traditional Tibetan village, where the stone houses with flat roofs are compactly built and separated only by maze-like narrow alleyways. Making your way through these alleyways, you will hike to the monastery located at the top of the village to enjoy the spectacular views of the snow capped peak above and the valley below. After spending some time here, you will hike down to your lodge at Lower Pisang. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Route notes
Today is one of the most beautiful days of this circuit trek. From Lower Pisang, you will head to Ngawal via Ghyaru, which is located approximately 10 kilometers north-west of Lower Pisang. The journey takes about 5 hours. Crossing the river, and leaving Lower Pisang, you will head on the trail that first leads you to Ghyaru. The path up till the Mani wall is fairly leveled, however, further from the Mani Wall to Ghyaru is long, hard, steep and most on switchbacks. Nevertheless, the views of the Annapurna II and surrounding peaks are very much rewarding. The 2-hour climb will take you to Ghyaru. You will rest there for sometime taking in the views and then hit the trail again to get to Ngawal. From Ghyaru, a walk on a much steadier incline will first take you to the pass, which is the highest point of today. This is another point on the trail that presents picture perfect views of Annapurna II, slopes covered with green forest and the valley below. You will then gently head down towards the village of Ngawal. A 2 hours walk from Ghyaru will take you to Ngawal, where you will check into the lodge for dinner and overnight stay. In the evening, if you are not exhausted, you can take a stroll around the village of Ngawal. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Route notes
Enjoy your morning meal at the lodge and get ready to begin the journey to Manang, located around 11 kilometers south-west of Ngawal . Ngawal presents two route options to get to Manang. One via Humde and the other one heads through a quarry and down into the valley. If you are looking for a shorter one, you can go with the one that goes via Humde. However, if you are looking for a longer one, choose the second option. Both the trails drop down to meet the Manang road. A 2 hour hike down the valley will take you to a Tibetan village called Braga. If you are planning to go to the Ice Lake tomorrow, you can choose to stay here, however, if you want your acclimatization walk around the village of Manang and a luxury accommodation, continue to Manang. In Braga, there is a beautiful buddhist built along the road to Manang, which you can visit before heading to Manang. A 2 kilometer walk from Braga will finally take you to one of the biggest towns on the trek, Manang. This town is packed with facilities like nicer and spacious accommodation options, laundry facilities, cafes and bakeries etc. Once in Manang, you will check into the lodge and spend the remaining day at leisure. One of the best ways to spend the remaining time is to explore the town of Manang. Along with the settlement and lifestyle of people, you will also discover some wonderful cafes and bakeries. Overnight in a lodge in Manang. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Route notes
Once you are in Manang, you are already above 3500 meters from the sea level and in the next three days you will gain around 2000 meters more elevation. Because of this, if the body is not well acclimatized, it will be difficult for it to handle the upcoming altitude and the chances of being hit by altitude sickness grows higher. But, there are a range of hikes and activities that will help prepare your body, both mentally and physically, to fight the tough days ahead. To physically prepare your body, your guide will take you on a guided acclimatization hike. Some are half day hikes around Manang and others full day. Some popular half day hikes are hikes to Gangapurna Lake lookout, 100 Lama monastery lookout and the Braga Village monastery. Hike to the Ice Lake is the best full day hike. Considering your choice and your physical condition, your guide will decide today’s hiking destination. Moreover, to mentally prepare yourself, you can attend the informal talk, presented by volunteer doctors, at the premises of the Himalayan Rescue Association’s aid post and get information about the symptoms and preventive measures of Acute Mountain Sickness. If you are planning a full day hike to the Ice Lake, you can attend this talk a day before. In the evening, you will get back to your lodge for overnight stay. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Route notes
Breakfast in Manang and you will start your day’s hike to Letdar located roughly 11 kilometers north-west of Manang. The route exiting Manang takes you to Tengi, Ghusang and Yak Kharka before reaching Ledar. Starting at the elevation of 3,540 meters, you will end the hike at the elevation of 4200 meters gaining around 660 meters elevation. This is the first day of the road-free section and you will not be disturbed by the vehicles. The major elevation gain will be from Manang to Ghusang, which makes this section more challenging. Following the trail that weaves out of Manang, you will climb above the town of Manang. Enjoy the spectacular views of the snow-capped peaks, river running through the valley and distant small lake. As the trail heads higher, the trail grows narrower but the landscape more spectacular. Walking past the yaks grazing on green slopes you will hike to Ghusang, where you will stop for a short tea/coffee and toilet break. You will then continue further on a comparatively leveled and easy trail to Ledar. You will also cross Yak Kharka and a few suspension bridges before reaching Ledar. The views of the mountains along this section are some of the best in the whole Annapurna Circuit. Soon you will reach Ledar and check into the lodge for dinner and overnight stay. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Route notes
During breakfast at Ledar, your guide will give you two options. One is to hike north to Thorung Phedi, which is roughly 5 kilometers from Ledar and the journey takes about 2-3 hours. The elevation gain will be around 325 meters. The other option is to go 1 kilometer further north of Thorung Phedi to the High Camp. The elevation gain will be around 725 meters and you will need additional 1 to 1.5 hours to complete this additional journey. These night stops are the last and the highest nightstops in the Manang district, before attempting the pass. The next day, crossing the pass, you will head down to Muktinath that lies in the Mustang district of Nepal. Leaving Ledar, and following the narrow trail that runs parallel to the river, you will first hike down to the bridge to cross the river. After crossing the bridge, you will steeply ascend to a small tea house located along the tail to serve tea and other food items to the trekkers. You will rest at this point for some time and then continue further on the path that goes through the landslide area. This section is both challenging and dangerous and you need to tread very carefully following the guide’s instructions. About half an hour walk on this section and soon you will reach Thorung Phedi. You will check into the lodge for overnight stay. Nevertheless, if you’d like to hike further up to the High Camp, it’s only about a kilometer walk from the Phedi on steeply ascending switchbacks covered with loose rocks. Since you are way above timberline, the oxygen level at this altitude might go down to 55%, shortness of breath, increased resting heart rate, and exhaustions are very common around this area. Call it an early night and spend the night in the lodge either at Phedi or the High Camp. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Route notes
This is the most awaited day of the Annapurna Circuit Trek as you will finally reach the highest point of the trek, that is, Thorung La Pass located at 5,416 meters above sea level. It’s a long and challenging day, but very rewarding. The total hike will be around 15 kilometers and to complete the journey it takes about 9-10 hours. If you’ve stayed the previous night in Thorung Phedi, you should start the hike around 4 am. However, if you’ve stayed at the High Camp, you can start around 5 am. The point to start early is to reach the pass, located roughly 4 kilometers north-west of the High Camp, before 10:00 am as the harsh wind conditions around noon time makes it very difficult to cross the pass around or after noon time. Carrying packed breakfast, you will start the day while it is still dark outside. You will continue on a thin steep trail, in a single file, for about 4 hours before reaching the pass from the High Camp. Fluttering prayer flags mark the top and the arrival of the Pass and you will also be greeted by the majestic views of the summits rising above 6000 meters.. You will have your breakfast here, enjoy tea at the tea shop and spend some time celebrating the success and taking in the views. Then leaving the Pass, you will start your journey to Muktinath, which is located roughly 11 kilometers further north-west of the Pass. It’s a long hike, down on a snaking trail that gently descends around the beginning and the end, but steeply drops in between. The walk will either be on the snow, mud or the loose rocks. In the distance lies the stunning view of Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri. A roughly 5 hours walk from the pass will finally bring you to the town of Muktinath. Here, you will check into the lodge, take a hot shower and enjoy afternoon coffee tea or bakery. If you are not very tired you can also choose to visit the temple of Muktinath, Jwala Mai Temple and the nearby Buddhist Monastery. Overnight in a lodge in Muktinath. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Route notes
Lubra, a tiny, pristine Bon village of about 14-15 households in Lower Mustang, is one of those villages that can take you back in time to the roots of Bonism, helping you get insight on this ancient, indigenous religion that was followed for centuries, before the growth of Buddhism. The village is thus considered a treasure of Mustang and while in Mustang, this is a must visit place. Leaving Muktinath after breakfast, you will now start your journey to Jomsom via Lubra. A 7 kilometers hike south-west of Muktinath will bring you to Lubra. To understand the settlement and the lifestyle and culture more, you will spend some time exploring the village, Yungdung Phuntsok Ling monastery and Gon Phuk temple. You can also choose to have lunch prepared by the local people here. After exploring the village and enjoying the beauty of nature, you will hike down to the suspension bridge to catch your vehicle to Jomsom. In Jomsom, you will check into the lodge and around the afternoon set out to explore the town of Jomsom. Overnight in a lodge in Jomsom. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
