Mt. Everest, the highest mountain in the world, now stands at 8848.86 meters high. Yes, Mt. Everest has grown by 86 centimeters over years. The highest point on earth is no more than 8848 meters, but 8848.86 as per the joint announcement made by the Government of Nepal and China on 8th December 2020. This announcement has not only declared the new height of Mt. Everest but has also ended years-long controversies regarding its height since it was first measured in 1954.
Although the trekking and mountaineering activities have been put on halt due to COVID for almost a year now, the post-COVID mountaineers around the world aiming for Everest now have a chance to rewrite history by being the first person to conquer the new height.
